This bill amends the composition and requirements of the board of parole in Alaska. It increases the number of board members from five to seven and limits them to a maximum of two five-year terms. It also stipulates that among the board’s members there must be a licensed medical professional; a crime victim, family member, or member of a crime victims advocacy group; an individual who has personal experience with addiction or with addiction recovery support; and a member of a federally recognized tribe. No more than three members can be current or former employees of correctional facilities. The bill also requires the board of parole to submit an annual report detailing its operations and parole hearings, including demographic data and decision-making criteria.
