In Memoriam: Willie Anderson

The ACLU of Alaska is saddened to share the loss of Willie Anderson, community advocate and former board member, on October 26, 2024. Willie served on the ACLU of Alaska board of directors from 2001 until 2015.  

Willie was a former math teacher in North Carolina and dedicated his career in Alaska to public education advocacy through the National Education Association (NEA). He was an advocate for civil liberties and rights of many groups of people, including the LGTBQIA2S+ community. He was a stalwart advocate who lead with compassion and strength, while also being patient and kind. The ACLU of Alaska is forever grateful for Willie’s commitment to civil rights in Alaska and his decades of service. Read more about Willie here.
