The ACLU of Alaska announced today that Casey Reynolds and Laura Herman have joined our staff as our Communications Director and Director of Philanthropy, respectively.
ACLU of Alaska Staffs Up To Take on Expanded Role
Anchorage, AK - The American Civil Liberties Union of Alaska announced today that Casey Reynolds and Laura Herman have joined their staff to accommodate the group’s growing portfolio of public policy activities, both in Alaska and nationwide.
Casey joins the ACLU of Alaska as their first ever communications director to expand the ACLU’s public and media exposure in Alaska. Casey’s experience in politics and public affairs is as eclectic as it is successful. In addition to working on dozens of political and issue campaigns, Casey has been the communications director for the Alaska Republican Party, hosted a successful mid-morning conservative radio talk show on Anchorage station KFQD, and created and edited the leading source for insider information on Alaska politics: The Midnight Sun. Casey comments, “I am excited to start a new chapter with the ACLU of Alaska and look forward to working with the team to further develop their already extensive work on civil liberties issues facing Alaskans. Both and here and across America, good people are looking for the ACLU to step up and take an expanded role in combating mean-spirited policies and government overreach into our lives. I’ll be proud to stand with the ACLU as they meet that challenge.”
Laura joins the ACLU of Alaska on April 24 as their new director of philanthropy after successfully running and developing new grassroots funding streams for the Alaskan Aids Assistance Association. Laura comes with a wealth of experience engaging with Alaskans and motivating them to see the value their contributions can have in a larger, community-based effort. Laura says, “Now more than ever, Americans are called to stand up for civil liberties and protect the institutions that make America great. I’m excited to talk to donors about what the ACLU of Alaska is doing to make sure Alaskans are protected, and why giving now is so important.”
ACLU of Alaska Executive Director Joshua A. Decker comments, “I’m really excited that we’re going to be a fully staffed affiliate for the first time in our 46-year history: the work we’re doing is hugely important, both for Alaska and the country, and I’m tremendously proud of all us for working hard to do it.”
