When Gordon Hirabayashi was a young man in 1943, Japanese-Americans were perceived as a threat based on their racial heritage and were forcibly required to move into internment camps. Gordon refused to report to the camps, so the ACLU represented him in a case that went all the way to the Supreme Court. Although we lost the case (it was overturned many years later), we are proud of our history of fighting unconstitutional discrimination against racial minorities, even when it was the unpopular thing to do.
"Hold These Truths," a play about Hirabayashi's life, will be showing at the Perseverance Theater in Juneau from November 17 - December 4. Because of our important role in his story, ACLU supporters can enjoy a special 25% discount on tickets by calling 907-463-TIXS and using the code PT38AKBP for the sponsor discount. Make sure to call today and reserve your tickets!
Not in Juneau? The play will be shown at the Sydney Lawrence Theater in Anchorage in January 2017: keep an eye out for details!
